Minerals

A group of trace substances occurring naturally in foods and which are necessary for normal nutrition. Deficiency can cause defective growth and poor health, leading to the body becoming susceptible to disease, deformity, pain and suffering.

Calcium

Present in chalk and lime and used in the treatment of chilblains. Chief sources are milk and cheese. Needed for bone and teeth formation, particularly in the growing child and pregant mothers.

May be useful to deal with ailments such as cateracts, alergies, after menopause, depression or anxiety, insomnia, muscle twitches and cramp, joint and muscles aches, arthritis, pregnancy and lactation.

Chromium

Helps insulin do it's job, important in carbohydrate metabolism, and the maintenance of nucleic acids.

Can help in weight management by increasing fat loss and maintaining muscular tissue. Also stabilises blood sugar, and helps in the management of diabetes.

Iron

An essential constituent of the red blood corpuscles present in the form of haemoglobin, also present in the muscle tissue and certain respiratory pigments essential to the life of many tissues in the body. Stored mainly in the liver, but also in the spleen and kidneys, where it is available for the formation of bone marrow where haemoglobin is formed.

Magnesium

Mainly derived from cereals and vegetables and essential for proper bodily function.

Deficiency causes muscular weakness and interferes with the efficient working of the heart. Magnesium Sulphate, Epsom salts, used effectively in the elimination of acids in the body especially in cases of arthritis and reumatics, also in diseases such as bronchitis and non-allergic asthma.

Phosphorus

An important part of bone structure, also found in cell membranes, nucleic acids and proteins.

Part of the bodies primary energy molecule and required for the health and structure and function of the body.

Potassium

An essential mineral and component of most cells in the body. Maintains fluid balance, nerve transmissions, regular heartbeat, and muscle contractions.

Selenium

A component of one of the body's major antioxidants and helps protect the body against free radicals. Reduces the risk of degenerative diseases such as heart disease, arthritis and certain cancers. See under Anti-oxidants

Zinc

A component of a large number of the hormones used by the body that play an important role in cell replication, tissue repair and growth. Included in testosterone and growth hormones and well known for it's role in the reproductive system and prostate gland functioning.
